Have you ever gone into the New Year with the mentality of "New Year, New Me" and a whole list of everything about yourself that you want to be different by December?
Do any of these goals last past February? Okay, maybe they make it to March or April, but I'd bet you struggle to even remember them by the time August comes around.
There's a few reasons why it's soooo hard to make these goals last. The first might be that your goals just simply didn't fit into your schedule or lifestyle. For example, did you plan to wake up at 5am everyday to work out before work? Awesome! But, if you're used to waking up at 7:45 to log into work by 8, this seems pretty far-fetched. Instead, maybe the goal could be to set the alarm for 15 minutes sooner each week until you reach 5am and could add a workout 2-3 days per week â°. It might take longer to get there, but I promise this way it's a lot more likely to stick around!
đ The other reason the goals didn't stick was they weren't measurable or specific enough. For example, maybe you set the goal to eat more vegetables but didn't really have a plan of how to get there (aka what is more for you? It might be once/day, or once/week, but we need to quantify "more"). Not being specific makes the goal difficult to achieve because we don't have any action steps, or measurement to hold us accountable.
What these two resolution hurdles have in common is that they focus too much on the end goal. Yep, I want you to think less of what you hope to achieve at the end of the year, and instead focus on what the steps to that goal look like đď¸.
Overall, making your goals last means knowing all of the steps that you need to get there. Make your goals SMART (Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic & Timely) helps to ensure you've got a plan and actions steps to get there. Lastly, accountability is KEY.
